Abstract
The article presents the results of the investigation of the dynamics of lipid metabolism and anthropometric data in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and coronary heart disease (CHD) treated with metformin (MF) and pioglitazone (PG). We have treated 95 patients with coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes. All patients were randomized into 2 groups: control group (37 patients) which received metformin and sulfonylureas and observational group (58 patients), which received pioglitazone in addition to metformin therapy. The proposed course of therapy lasted 6 months. Use of the proposed combined treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes and CHD resulted in a statistically significant improvement in lipid metabolism, patients’ body weight and visceral obesity. Also, it was well tolerated and improved quality of life.
