Abstract
The authors have studied the effects of letrozole (Letromara), a steroid aromatase inhibitor, at a dose of 1 mg/kg b.w. every other day during 14 days, on reproductive organs of young and aging male rats. Letrozole stimulated androgen target organs in aging animals showing age-related involution of reproductive system and perhaps in young rats. Biological effects of androgen stimulation were noted despite the absence of an increase in plasma testosterone levels.
