Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and quality of care of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) using monotherapy with Diaglizid® MR or combination  Diaglizid® MR with metformin and a lipid-lowering therapy. Materials and methods. Open observation program «DіaDEYa» (Dіaglіzid® MR: Dostupnіst, Efektivnіst,  Yakіst) is a part of the Ukrainian project to improve the quality of T2DM patients’ life. Initially 605 T2DM patients with baseline HbA1c≥7.0%, without serious  comorbidity had been included in the study. The patients took treatment Diaglizid® MR had been provided at the doses of 30-120 mg/day. Scheduled assesment  had  been performed in 1 and 3 months after the first visit; if necessary, doses of the drug were adjusted. By the end of the study the number of participants reduced to 529  patients (335 women and 194 men). Results. In all groups of patients were found stable anthropometric indices and significant improvement of carbohydrate  metabolism — decreased HbA1c levels by 1.3% after 3 months of treatment with Diaglizid® MR as monotherapy or in combination with metformin and statins. In 96  drug-naive T2DM patients was found stronger hypoglycemic effect (Δ=1.56±0.05; Δ%=19±0.5) compared to the total group (Δ=1.4±0.05; Δ%=15.5±0.5; р<0.05). Anti- atherogenic effect of therapy expressed in decrease of blood pressure and lipids especially in the group of patients with statins. Taking into consideration the proven  pharmacokinetic bioequivalent to original drugs and comparative analysis using of generic gliclazide and metformin will significantly cut costs. Conclusions. It showed  high efficacy of the drug Diaglizid® MR, both as monotherapy and in combination with metformin and statins, in relation to the correction of carbohydrate  methabolism and lipid profile.
