Metabolic disorders associated with the factors of the metabolic syndrome and  diabetes mellitus: total and abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, glucose toxicity, oxidative stress, dismetabolism of lipids and purines attributed to the pathogenetic  mechanisms of the development of degenerative dystrophic changes in the joints. For diabetes mellitus is typical imbalance of proinflammatory and  anti-inflammatory cytokines, prostaglandins, growth factors that induces the processes of inflammation and degradation of articular cartilage, creating the basis for  clinical manifestations of  osteoarthritis signs.
